How Much Can You Get Paid as a Caregiver in Virginia?
If you are providing in-home care for someone in Virginia, you may be able to get paid through Virginia Medicaid's CCC Plus program.
Your pay depends on:
- The hourly rate set by the state
- The number of care hours approved
- The portion of these hours you accept to work on a weekly basis
Hourly Pay and Monthly Examples (Effective July 1, 2025)
The state sets the hourly rate for consumer-directed personal care:
- $17.97 per hour in Northern Virginia
- $13.88 per hour in the Rest of Virginia
Importantly, if you are interested in splitting up the work, other caregivers can be similarly compensated for working a portion of the total approved hours per week, even 100% of the hours.
Northern Virginia ($17.97/hour)
- 15 hours per week ≈ $1,078 per month
- 30 hours per week ≈ $2,157 per month
- 40 hours per week ≈ $2,876 per month
Rest of Virginia ($13.88/hour)
- 15 hours per week ≈ $833 per month
- 30 hours per week ≈ $1,666 per month
- 40 hours per week ≈ $2,221 per month
How Are Hours Approved?
After a person qualifies for in-home care, a nurse completes an in-home assessment. The nurse evaluates how much help the person needs with daily activities such as:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Eating
- Using the bathroom
- Mobility
- Supervision for safety
The state approves a specific number of weekly care hours based on that assessment. Read: What Happens During the Virginia Medicaid Home Assessment?
